Coast students are a diverse
group of individuals with a common goal—to graduate with a high
school diploma. Students who are successful at Coast have other things
in common as well; for example, they are motivated and determined, and
they take responsibility for their own education. Many of our students
gain invaluable experience in time-management. Because of their involvement
in career path activities outside of school, they have learned that they
must manage their time efficiently in order to reach their goals, both
academically and professionally.
- One Coast student is a professional
skateboarder. She travels all over the world for her sponsor.
- Several Coast students are
pursuing professional motocross careers. You can spot them by their
bruises and scraped knees and elbows.
- One of our graduates is
pursuing a career in ballet.
- A current student is a musician
in a group that plays at concerts all over the country.
- Another student is pursuing
a career as a professional hockey player.
- One of our former female
students is a competitive surfer. She travels all over the U.S. to compete
in surfing contests. She also travels to promote her sponsor’s
products.
- Coast has been the academic
home to a competitive skateboarder who also travels around the U.S.
and is the model for a well-known skateboarding clothing line.
- CHS also has several students
involved in the ROP cosmetology program, which requires students to
attend four days a week. It is an intense course of study that prepares
students to pass the State Boards.
- Many of our students are
enrolled in other ROP classes, which prepare students for future careers
through internships and eventual job placement.
- Several students have plans
to enter trade schools after they have earned their diplomas. For example,
one student is planning to apply to a well-known automotive training
program in Wyoming.
Coast students are unique in
that they have decided to take advantage of an alternative educational
delivery system in order to attain their goals. Some of our other students
acknowledge that they made some poor decisions in not attending classes
at their home schools; however, they believe that the past doesn’t
cement the future, and they are now making good decisions. They are managing
their time better, taking personal responsibility for their education,
and literally accelerating by “doing double duty” to make
up credit deficiencies so they can either return to their home schools
to graduate or stay at Coast and participate in our graduation ceremony.
