Us
Coast
High School offers independent study to eligible high school students
who are looking for an alternative to the regular high school. Students
must be able to complete high school course work independently.
Each
student completes course assignments at home; however, teacher help
is available during school hours via telephone or email.
Students
take one academic course (math, science, language arts or social
studies) at a time which should be completed in four weeks or less.
Additional classes may be taken, such as physical education, foods,
keyboarding, or prenatal and parenting classes. We have an on-site
Child Development Center for teen parents.
Coast
curriculum is aligned with state content standards and district
curriculum standards. CHS operates under the California Code of
Regulations for Independent Study.
About
Our Students
Coast H.S. has
approximately 280-380 students. In general, CHS students are self-starters
who want greater flexibility, a smaller campus, an individualized
program, or an academic or personal fresh start. Students choose
CHS to make up credits and return to their home schools, to work,
to attend college, and to accommodate personal circumstances, such
as health, parenting, or other individual needs. Some students complete
high school at Coast and graduate in our cap and gown ceremony in
June.
