Parent:
Please read and review this dress code with your student.
We accept the
premise that the major responsibility for student appearance rests
with the parents. Parents then have an obligation not only to provide
clothing, but to guide the student's selection in proper wearing
apparel and determine its suitability. Parents should see that students
are dressed appropriately for the school environment prior to leaving
home.
1. Students are
encouraged to wear clean, neat clothing that is in good repair and
to be groomed appropriately for the classroom environment.
- Coast High School
prohibits any attire which is disruptive to the educational process.
2. Students are
encouraged to dress in a safe manner consistent with community mores
and values. Any clothing that is sexually suggestive, provocative,
or revealing is disruptive of the learning environment.
- Coast High School
prohibits clothing which shows or conveys messages of a sexual
tone, including but not limited to obscene symbols, signs or slogans.
Examples of prohibited
clothing include but are not limited to:
- Bare midriff shirts
(shirt needs to meet the top of pants or skirt)
- Halter tops/off the
shoulder tops
- Short shorts/short
skirts/low-cut jeans
- Swim suits or tube
tops
- Clothing which allows
underwear or portions of the anatomy, not properly covered by
underware, to be inappropriately exposed below and/or above the
waist (cleavage, spaghetti string straps, tank tops, etc.)
- "Player 69"
clothing
- Muscle shirts
- Pajamas
3. Students are
encouraged to dress in a safe manner.
- Coast High School
prohibits clothing which is unsafe, dangerous, or hazardous to
health. This includes but is not limited to spikes and chains

is not permitted. (A safety issue for mailes/females)
- Appropriate footwear
must be worn at all times. Slippers, socks or sock-like footwear
without shoes are not allowed.
- Sunglasses shall not
be worn inside of classroom.
4. Students are
encouraged to be tolerant of others. Clothing which carries a message
of intolerance or is demeaning of other students leads to conflict
and is disruptive of the learning environment.
- Coast High School
prohibits any attire which contains words or symbols which degrade
gender, culture, religion, sexual orientation or ethnic values.
5. Students are
encouraged to develop healthy life styles.
- Coast High School
prohibits clothing and jewelry which advertises tomacco, alcohol,
drugs, any illegal substances, or depicts illegal acts, weapons
or promotes violence.
6. Coast High
School prohibits any gang-related styles. This includes any combination
of clothing, which, upon guidance of law enforcement agencies,
is considered gang related. Due to changing trends in gang attire,
clothing, jewelry, accessories, and grooming styles, restrictions
may change as necessary. Notice of changes will be posted on
the bulletin board or in the diploma office as soon as it is reasonably
possible.
Examples of gang-related
attire include but are not limited to:
- Pant legs longer than
the top of the shoes or shorts longer than the top of the knee
- Shorts when worn with
socks touching the bottom hem of the shorts
- Socks worn with shorts

graffiti, obscene symbols, signs, slogans, alcohol, drugs, tobacco,
or degrading items.
Consequences
for failure to adhere to student dress code:

do not meet these standards may be sent home to prepare themselves
before they reenter school. Repeated violations may result in
more severe disciplinary actions.
